Tonnage Matching
The clutch WLL must match the insert WLL. A 5T insert requires a 5T Swift Lift clutch. Mismatched tonnages will cause catastrophic failure under load.
Pre-Engagement Checks
Tongue Placement
Clutch tongue must rest flat on the concrete surface after engagement. Lifting away from the tongue is permitted provided it does not rise more than 30° from the surface.
AS 3850 requires lifting inserts and clutches to be installed and used in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. AS 4991 mandates that lifting devices for precast concrete comply with design, testing and operational requirements. Tongue orientation and engagement angles are defined by the manufacturer — standards require compliance with those specs.
All pulling force on inserts must be vertical. Horizontal pull can cause unplanned movement, damage or failure of the lifting inserts.
Always check with the manufacturer’s current specifications before use. Tongue placement, engagement angles and WLL ratings may vary between manufacturers and product versions.
